THE DIALOGUES

Once a year, Wanderworks Antwerp invites two artists to collaborate on an artistic project. An artistic dialogue, but also a social and cultural one. These artists can be musicians, writers, poets, painters, actors, performers... What sets this collaboration apart from similar projects is that the artists come from countries or areas that are or have been in conflict with each other. It could be an armed conflict, economic rivalry, ethnic or religious tensions, etc... or historical traumas that span generations and are still felt today. What connects the artists is that they live in Antwerp, Belgium. For this project, they engage in an artistic dialogue with each other in search of connections. They work together for several weeks, after which the results of their project are shared with the public on the roof terraces of Antwerp and Faro. Filmmaker Jess the Gruyter and writer Andy Fierens film and interview the artists during their creative journey. This process will be transformed into a short documentary. In this way Antwerp and Faro become a stage for dialogue, collaboration, connection and understanding. The first edition of “The Dialogues” will be a collaboration between Lev Adamov from Russia and Alexey Soldatov from Ukraine. Violinist Lev Adamov was born in St. Petersburg. He has performed all over the world, such as Concertgebouw, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center and Boston Symphony Hall. Leo's professional musical experiences range from traditional classical concerts with Duncan Sheik and Jill Scott, from "Spring Awakening" on Broadway for Shostakovich Piano Trio to solo improvisation with a dancer. Alexey Soldatov grew up in Odessa. He is a visual artist and accordionist who finds inspiration in Georgian folk music. This project is supported by PAX Christi Flanders and the European Creative Rooftop Network. He is performing in Faro in collaboration with DAKkan, the Antwerp Rooftops Festival.
