João Gil invites Tainá

João Gil, composer and guitarist, is one of the most (re)known names in Portuguese music. His career in music began in the 1970s and since then there have been countless projects that he founded and to which he belonged. He was one of the founding members of Trovante. In the 1990s, Ala dos Namorados appears. In 2005 João Gil presents and leads the Filarmónica Gil. In celebration of 30 years of activity, João Gil edits his first album in his own name where, solo and in partnership with some guest artists, he interprets themes of his authorship. The last few years brought two more great projects with the signature of João Gil: Quinteto Lisboa and Tais Qual. Over more than 40 years of Portuguese music, João Gil distinguished himself as a composer of some of the songs that will forever be part of the national collective memory: Saudade, 125 Azul, Os Loucos de Lisboa, Postal dos Correios, among many others. , are examples of songs signed by João Gil that became true phenomena of popularity.

Tainá landed in Portugal from her native Brazil, where she studied music in spite of her family, working at the school to pay for her course. At the age of 21, he recorded his debut album in Lisbon, when he only intended to record a model. The overflowing talent did not fit into a demo, not even an EP, so it was urgent to record all that full and pristine music, down to the last note, the last word, the final silence...

Tainá was walking through the streets of Lisbon, when she spontaneously joined a jam by a group of musicians and was challenged to sing “Corcovado”, by Tom Jobim. In the end, she learned that it was Erlend Øye's band, from the Kings of Convenience, who the next day was performing solo at Capitólio, in Lisbon. Invited to attend the concert, Tainá was singing at the door of the Capitol when Erlend Øye heard her and joined her and, impressed, proposed her to perform in the first part of his next two concerts in Portugal. But these and other facts become fascinating stories when told by Tainá, an excellent storyteller, singer and songwriter, who in “Sonhos” reveals only the first chapter of a remarkable debut.
