“Açoteia Catalogue”

Exhibition
In a partnership between the Rotterdamse Dakendagen (the Rotterdam rooftop festival), the world renowned architects MRVD and the city of Rotterdam, a book called “Rooftop Catalogue” has been produced which is an extensive work promoting the use of rooftops in cities.

In the preamble of the catalog we can read:

“On top of densified cities, there is plenty of room for housing, energy transition, climate adaptation, and inclusion. In this combination of challenges, one helps the other. This requires good design and active policy, extensive research, and varied examples. The Rooftop Catalog is a great start to that. This Rooftop Catalog provides an overview of the endless possibilities that rooftops offer us. The examples are intended to inspire designers, building owners, builders, and all those who want to take action in the sustainable development of their cities. It is becoming more and more common to install green roofs or put up solar panels, which is a very good development. There are many more possibilities that can sometimes even contribute to solving the big problems of our time. In the coming years cities will add new layers to their residential buildings: a house is only a home when there is enough greenery, space for sports and leisure, schools and a health center. This means that there will be even more pressure on city center space. This catalog is intended as a contribution to that discussion and development”.

The catalog has been turned into an exhibition and can be visited during the Açoteia - Faro Rooftop Festival. This project is realized with the support and partnership of Rotterdamse Dakendagen, MRVD and the Municipality of Rotterdam.
